The Omaha Zombie Walk began in 2008. Since then it has tripled in attendance, and raised thousands of dollars for charity. The Zombie Walk is the favorite event all year for many in Omaha, according to a couple votes by local sites.
The whole family, especially the kids love it, because YOU get to be the MONSTERS! Dress up as a zombie, or donate to have one of our professional make-up artists paint your face. Enjoy entertainment, games, and interactive booths during the day.
At twilight, the walk begins! Hoards of zombies stagger, moan, and occasionally break out into a ‘Thriller’ dance.
When the walk is done, and the kids are pooped and in bed, the nighttime festivities begin! Drink and socialize, rock out to some live tunes, maybe have some Zombie Cake.
An instant favorite, Dr. San Guinary’s Annual “ZOMBIKINI Contest” is held, as well as a “Best Zombie” contest, both with GREAT prizes, not cheap nick-knacks.
So much more to mention, it must be experienced to really know what the Omaha Zombie Walk is all about. In it’s first year, it was such a good time, and so much buzz was created, that the event was on CNN! Not just a blurb, either. They interviewed local pod caster Wayne Brekke, who filmed the walk. Can you believe it? CNN in the first year!
Well, that just goes to show ya, Omaha knows how to do a Zombie Walk. They know how to make it fun, promote it, and get people excited!
We grew up here, so it is ingrained in us to do things a certain way. We did not set out just to make a cool party for our friends. Our goal is to have a fun, free, family event to look forward to every year. It is for the people, the businesses, the artists and entertainers, and for charity. We want it to become one of Omaha’s staples, which we believe we have accomplished in it’s 4th year.
What’s more, we see it even as an attraction. We want people to say, “Sure, I have been to a zombie walk in this city and that city, but have you been to Omaha’s Zombie Walk? They know how it’s done! You gotta go to Omaha this year!”
That is why The Omaha Zombie Walk pops up on the first page in google if you type in “Omaha”. Really, go try for yourself! It practically already has become an attraction.
No matter where you are, if you are close, and it is time, take the off ramp into Omaha. If you are a local who has not yet experienced what is one of Omaha’s staples, we know you will. Come be a part of it now, and every year… make it a tradition. Watch it grow as an attraction, then into a pastime, and on into the next generations.
That is just how Omaha does it. Even with a Zombie Walk. It is a Zombie Walk, yes, but it’s not about death. It is a celebration of life. We have many celebrations of life in this part of the country, we just thought a Zombie Walk would be a new, cool, fun way to do it!
What is a ZOMBIE WALK?
A zombie walk is an organized public gathering of two or more people who dress up in zombie costumes and make-up. Usually taking place in an urban centre, the participants make their way around the city streets in a somewhat orderly fashion limping and gnawing their way as they go. During the event participants are encouraged to remain in character as zombies and to communicate only in a manner consistent with zombies (such as grunts, groans and slurred moans calling for “brains!”)
